Meerut: A 25-year-old nurse was murdered inside the operation theatre of a private hospital in Meerut. The killers tried to pass it off as a suicide. A fake suicide note was planted next to her body. Police cracked the case and have arrested two hospital employees. The victim has been identified as Neha Bhatia.
Neha reported for duty at MCC Private Hospital in Lohia Nagar on Saturday just like any other day. A short while later she was found unconscious inside the operation theatre. Doctors examined her and declared her dead. At the scene, police found sulfas tablets and a handwritten note that appeared to be a suicide note. The initial reading of the case was that she had taken her own life.
Meerut, Uttar Pradesh: Circle Officer (CO), Kotwali, Sangram Singh says, "On July 18, at around 2:00 p.m., Lohiya Nagar Police Station received information through Dial 112 that a nursing staff member working at MCC Hospital had allegedly died by suicide after consuming poison.… pic.twitter.com/xxA5us66Kb

Neha's family refused to accept the suicide theory from the very beginning. They looked at the handwriting on the note and said clearly that it was not Neha's. That doubt was enough for police to change direction. Investigators pulled out CCTV footage from inside the hospital, went through mobile call detail records and began examining other forensic evidence closely. What they found changed the entire picture.
Police said that Neha and a hospital employee named Suresh had been in a relationship for several months. Neha had been pressuring Suresh to marry her. Unable to handle that pressure, Suresh allegedly conspired with his associate Farhan to get rid of her permanently.
According to police, Suresh and Farhan administered a poisonous chemical substance to Neha through a drip inside the operation theatre. She died as a result. After killing her the two wrote a fake suicide note and placed it beside the body to make it look like she had taken her own life and throw investigators off track.
Neha had lost her husband two and a half years ago. After his death she had been working as a nurse at MCC Hospital to support her family. She was a widow trying to rebuild her life. Both accused have been arrested. Forensic reports and other scientific evidence are still awaited. Police say more details may emerge as the investigation continues.
