Muzaffarnagar: Samajwadi Party leaders and hundreds of workers from Muzaffarnagar set off for Delhi on Sunday morning despite attempts by police to prevent their departure. They were travelling to attend the INDIA alliance rally scheduled to take place at Ramlila Maidan in the national capital.

The party had arranged a convoy of approximately 45 buses and 25 to 30 private vehicles for the journey. At around 10 am, police personnel tried to stop the group as it prepared to leave, but the leaders and workers continued with their plans and departed from the Samajwadi Party office at Mahavir Chowk.

MLA Pankaj Malik Joins the Convoy

Charthawal MLA Pankaj Malik also left his residence in Prempuri and reached the party office. Police attempted to stop him as well, but he proceeded to join the other party leaders and workers heading towards Delhi.

The group was scheduled to assemble at the Siwaya Toll Plaza in Meerut before travelling together to the rally venue.

Why Had Police Been Restricting Party Leaders?

Police action had reportedly begun on Saturday evening, when personnel were deployed outside the residences of several Samajwadi Party leaders to prevent them from joining the Delhi rally. The move prompted objections from District President Zia Chaudhary and other party representatives.

Party leaders raised the issue with Senior Superintendent of Police Suraj Kumar Rai. Following discussions, police personnel deployed outside the residences of leaders and workers were gradually withdrawn late Saturday night.

Convoy Departs Despite Fresh Attempts to Stop It

Despite the withdrawal of police deployment overnight, officers again attempted to restrict party members preparing to leave for Delhi on Sunday morning. However, the leaders and workers proceeded with their convoy.

The large-scale mobilisation from Muzaffarnagar, along with the police efforts to stop the group, has drawn attention ahead of the INDIA alliance rally at Ramlila Maidan.
