UP SIR Final Voter List To Be Released Today; Over 7 Lakh Names May Be Deleted (X)

Lucknow: After a five-and-a-half-month-long Special Intensive Revision (SIR) campaign in Uttar Pradesh, the final voter list was released on Friday. Chief Electoral Officer Navdeep Rinwa said that about 84.28 lakh voters added in final list, total electorate crosses 13.39 crore.

What did the Chief Electoral Officer say?

The Chief Electoral Officer said that the list released on January 6 had over 125.5 million voters. Today, the final voter list has 133,984,792 voters. Of these, 73,071,061 are male voters and 60,909,525 are female voters. Third-gender voters number 4,206, or less than 1 per cent.

The number of voters in the age group of 18-19 years is 17,63,360, that is, 1.32 per cent.

In the final voter list, there has been an increase of 84 lakh 28 thousand 767 voters in it as compared to the draft list.

Chief Electoral Officer Navdeep Rinwa stated that any eligible voter whose name is still missing can have their name included by filling out Form 6. The 166-day campaign received full cooperation from polling personnel and political parties.

How names could be deleted?

The final voter list, which was released on Friday, could remove the names of approximately 7 lakh people.

The draft voter list released on January 6 included 125.5 million voters. The Election Commission had given time until March 6 to file claims and objections, and after resolving them, this final list has now been prepared.

According to the data, around 86.69 lakh people had filled Form-6 to add new names, while 3.18 lakh people had submitted Form-7 to delete their names.

According to reports, the names could be around 20 million fewer than the voter list for 2025.

What is the reason?

The main reason behind the large number of deletions is the removal of deceased, transferred, duplicate and unverified voters.

The primary reason for names being deleted from the voter list is said to be  mismatches. During the investigation, data discrepancies were found in 22.2 million cases. Notices were issued to approximately 10.4 million voters for family mismatches

When was the SIR conducted?

The SIR campaign was conducted in phases, beginning on October 27 last year. The draft voter list, released on January 6, removed 28.9 million names from a total of 154.4 million voters, leaving 125.5 million voters in the draft list. This was followed by extensive hearings as part of the claims and objections process.

During the revision, 10.4 million voters whose records were not available from the 2003 voter list and 22.2 million cases with logical discrepancies were examined. Concerned voters were given an opportunity to submit documents, but those who could not provide proof within the stipulated time were excluded from the final list.

Meanwhile, a large number of applications for inclusion in the voter list have also been received. Between October 27 and March 6, 86.69 lakh Form-6 applications were submitted to register as new voters, while 3.18 lakh people filed Form-7 applications to remove their own or others' names. After processing these applications, a large number of new voters will be included in the final list.

What can a person do if the name is deleted?

Voters whose names are removed from the final list will be able to have their names added even after the list is released. Such voters must file an appeal with their District Magistrate (DM) within 15 days of the list's release. The administration has urged voters to check their names on the final list to avoid any problems on voting day.

What will happen after final list?

With the publication of the final list, preparations for the upcoming assembly elections will gain momentum, as this list will form the basis for the voting process.
