Over 31,000 Waqf Property Registrations Cancelled in UP After Major Irregularities Found (OpenAi)
Lucknow: A big controversy has arisen regarding the registration of Waqf properties in Uttar Pradesh. After the cancellation of registration of thousands of Waqf properties in the state, concern has increased among the mutawallis and people associated with the Waqf Board. The matter is related to the UMEED portal of the Central Government, where digital records of Waqf properties are being prepared. According to reports, around 12,000 registrations have been canceled due to irregularities in documents, incomplete information and technical errors.
Under the Waqf (Amendment) Act, it has been made mandatory to upload details of all Waqf properties on the UMEED portal. Mutawallis and managing committees have also been instructed to upload the data on the website of Uttar Pradesh Sunni Central Waqf Board within the time limit. The Board has clearly said that action can be taken under Section 61 of the Waqf Act against those who do not provide information within the stipulated time.
Many mutawallis say that they are continuously facing technical problems in uploading documents on the portal. Some people alleged that the portal was crashing repeatedly and data was not being saved. Due to this reason, registration of many properties remained incomplete. According to reports, a large number of people could not upload the documents before the last date.
The deadline has already been extended by the Waqf Tribunal and the Board. According to the notice of UP Sunni Central Waqf Board, different dates were fixed for the process of entry, verification and approval on the portal. Despite this, the process could not be completed in thousands of cases.
After the cancellation of registration of Waqf properties, political rhetoric may also intensify in the state. Some organizations are calling it administrative strictness, while many Muslim organizations have demanded relief citing technical and documentary problems. In the coming days, this matter can become a big issue of discussion in both court and politics.
Many mutawallis say that the sudden cancellation of registration has created confusion regarding the management of mosques, cemeteries and other Waqf properties. Now people are demanding from the government to give them a second chance and find a solution to the technical problems.
