New Delhi: HMD is gearing up to add a new phone to its smartphone lineup. The company has already begun teasing the device on e-commerce platforms. Ahead of the launch, HMD has made the official microsite for the upcoming phone live on Flipkart. Now, the company has also revealed the name of the upcoming device, along with details regarding its launch timeline.
On the microsite, the company confirmed that the upcoming device will be named the HMD Vibe 2 5G. It is set to be launched in the Indian market next month—in May—exclusively through Flipkart. The company has also offered a glimpse of the device's front panel, revealing a punch-hole cutout for the selfie camera and slightly rounded edges. It is expected that HMD will soon begin teasing other key specifications of this upcoming phone via its Flipkart microsite.
This device will arrive as the successor to the HMD Vibe 5G smartphone, which was launched in India last year. Since the HMD Vibe 5G was introduced as a budget-friendly device (priced at ₹8,999), similar expectations can be held for the upcoming HMD Vibe 2 5G smartphone. Let's take a look at the specifications of the HMD Vibe 5G.
The HMD Vibe 5G features a 6.67-inch HD+ IPS display with a punch-hole design, featuring a 2.5D curved screen and a 90Hz refresh rate. It offers a resolution of 720 x 1604 pixels. The device is powered by a Unisoc T760 processor, paired with 4GB of RAM and support for up to 4GB of virtual RAM. It comes with 128GB of internal storage, which can be expanded up to 512GB via a microSD card. The HMD Vibe 5G features a dual rear camera setup, comprising a 50-megapixel AI main camera and a 2-megapixel depth camera, along with an LED flash and a rear notification light. On the front, it sports an 8-megapixel selfie camera. For audio, the device is equipped with dual speakers and a single microphone.
The phone houses a 5000mAh battery, featuring a USB Type-C port for charging. The battery supports 18W fast charging via the Type-C port. It is claimed to offer up to 30 hours of talk time on 5G and up to 28 hours on 4G networks. Connectivity options available on the phone include Bluetooth version 5.2, GPS/A-GPS, GLONASS, and Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n.
Running on Android 15, the HMD Vibe 5G delivers a clean and bloatware-free user experience. HMD promises to provide security updates every three months for two years; however, this device will not receive any OS upgrades and will remain on Android 15. Security features include a side-mounted fingerprint sensor and Face Unlock, alongside standard sensors such as an accelerometer, ambient light sensor, and proximity sensor.
It supports dual Nano-SIM slots with both 5G and 4G connectivity. In terms of dimensions, the HMD Vibe 5G measures 165 mm in height, 75.8 mm in width, and 8.65 mm in thickness, and weighs 190 grams.
