New Delhi: Apple has launched a new scanning system at its retail stores to prevent theft and fraud. This allows the company to inspect returned iPhones without opening the packaging. This system will help determine the condition of the phone and verify that the iPhone and all its essential parts are present inside the returned box.

In fact, cases of fraud were reported at some Apple retail stores. According to reports, some people would purchase iPhones or other Apple products and remove vital parts or accessories. In some cases, the entire device was removed. The box was then resealed and returned to the store. The box appeared brand new from the outside, but the phone or vital parts were missing.

The phones were not sold after the box was opened

It has been reported that in some cases, this fraud was carried out on a large scale. The removed parts were then sold in the markets. To address this problem, Apple initially instructed that all returned boxes be opened and inspected. While this method helped detect fraud, it also created another problem. After opening the boxes, many such products became unsaleable, meaning they could not be resold. Such products had to be sent back to the warehouse for further processing, which cost the company time and resources.

Theft will be detected without opening the box

Now, a new scanning device is attempting to mitigate this problem. It will examine the iPhone inside its box and run diagnostic tests to determine whether the phone is in good condition or has been tampered with. If the test is positive, the phone can be put up for sale again without even opening the box. According to reports, this new scanner uses Apple's Presto technology, which the company uses to update the software of new iPhones without opening their packaging.

According to the report, the new anti-theft scanners began arriving at Apple retail stores earlier this month and are now being rolled out. This could help the company reduce losses from theft and fraud, as well as protect its saleable products.
