Instagram Opens New Door: Dub Reels in Six Indian Languages (Instagram)

New Delhi: Instagram has rolled out a new feature in India that lets creators dub their Reels in six Indian languages. The move makes short videos easier to share and enjoy across language groups in the country.

What’s the new feature about?

Instagram’s latest update lets users translate and dub the spoken audio of Reels into six Indian languages: Hindi, Bengali, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Marathi. This builds on existing support for English, Spanish and Portuguese, giving creators more ways to connect with diverse audiences.

The dubbing tool uses Meta’s artificial intelligence to convert the original audio into the chosen language. It aims to keep the creator’s voice tone and feel natural, so the dubbed version does not sound robotic. Viewers can choose the language they want to hear while watching a Reel.

Why is this important for creators?

Creators often make videos in one language and miss out on viewers who speak another. With this feature, a video made in Tamil can now be understood by someone who prefers Hindi or Bengali, without the creator having to record again.

Meta says this tool will help content travel beyond local boundaries, boosting engagement and reach for Indian creators. It also highlights India’s role as a key market for social media innovations.

Are there other updates in the app?

Alongside dubbing, Instagram has added support for Indian language fonts in its editing tools. Creators can use Devanagari and Bengali-Assamese scripts for captions and on-screen text. These fonts are set to roll out soon on Android devices.

Together, these updates make Instagram more local and expressive for users across India.
