New Delhi: Significant information regarding Reliance Jio has come to light. According to a report, the company has discontinued its JioPhone and JioPhone Prima plans. Furthermore, the names of the recharge plans for the 'JioBharat' phone have been changed to '4G Feature Phone Plans.' Similarly, the JioPhone data add-ons have been renamed '4G Feature Phone Add-ons.' It is reported that this step was taken following directives issued by TRAI. TRAI had instructed that recharge plans associated with JioPhone and JioBharat devices be made available to customers using all types of devices.

Why use JioPhone and JioBharat Recharges?

Let's understand the entire matter in simple terms:

- Essentially, Reliance Jio previously offered separate recharge plans specifically for JioPhone and JioBharat devices.
- The JioPhone and JioBharat are the company's feature phones, marketed primarily to 4G users.
- The company used to offer these phones at lower price points because the customers utilizing them were operating on the 4G network.

Did TRAI Issue Key Directives?

According to a reports, earlier this month, TRAI directed Jio to modify its device-specific tariff plans and make them accessible to users of all types of devices. It appears that, in compliance with TRAI's instructions, the company has renamed these recharge plans to '4G Feature Phone Plans' and '4G Feature Phone Add-ons.' However, it remains unclear whether these specific recharge plans will be available exclusively to JioPhone and JioBharat users, or if any 4G smartphone user—provided they have a Jio SIM card—will also be able to subscribe to them.

What Are Jio 4G Feature Phone Plans?

- A plan priced at ₹123, which offers unlimited voice calls, 0.5 GB of data per day, and 300 SMS messages. This plan comes with a validity period of 28 days.
- The company also offers a ₹234 plan to its 4G users. This plan includes unlimited calling, 0.5 GB of data per day, and 300 SMS messages. It comes with a validity period of 56 days.
- There is also a ₹369 plan, which provides unlimited calling and 0.5 GB of data per day. This plan has a validity of 84 days.
- For the price of ₹1,234, the company has consistently offered a 4G feature phone plan with a validity of 336 days.

What will be the impact of this change?

At first glance, this change appears to be merely a renaming exercise. If this offering is indeed intended for 4G phone users, one possible interpretation is that the company may now make these plans available to other feature phone users—beyond just its existing JioBharat and JioPhone customers. However, official confirmation regarding this matter is still awaited.
