Washington: US President Donald Trump stated on Friday that he plans to raise tariffs on cars and trucks imported from the European Union to 25% as early as next week. He accused the bloc of failing to adhere to a previously agreed-upon trade deal. Trump noted that these increased duties would not apply to vehicles assembled in US plants.

What did Donald Trump say?

In a social media post, Trump framed this move as both a corrective measure and an incentive for manufacturers to boost production within the United States. In his post, Trump wrote, "I am pleased to announce that next week, I will be raising tariffs on cars and trucks entering the U.S. from the European Union; the tariffs will be increased to 25%. This is because the European Union is not complying with our fully agreed-upon trade deal." He further added that if they produce cars and trucks in the US, they will not be subject to any tariffs.

“Many automobile and truck plants are currently under construction, with over $100 billion being invested — a record in the history of car and truck manufacturing. These plants, staffed with American workers, will be opening soon,” Donald Trump posted on Truth Social.

What action has Donald Trump taken?

According to reports, a White House official disclosed that U.S. President Donald Trump signed an executive order on Friday imposing new sanctions on the Cuban government. This executive order expands the scope of existing U.S. sanctions against Cuba. Furthermore, it imposes new sanctions on entities or individuals involved in supporting Cuba's security apparatus, engaging in government corruption, or committing human rights violations.

Trump's order accuses Cuba of maintaining close ties with Iran and providing safe havens to militant groups such as Hezbollah.
