Samsung Claims Galaxy Watch Can Predict Fainting Episodes 5 Minutes in Advance (OpenAi)
New Delhi: New research regarding Samsung's smartwatch, the Galaxy Watch6, has attracted the attention of both tech and health sectors. The company has claimed that this smartwatch may be able to give warning about five minutes before a person becomes unconscious. This technique is considered especially helpful for those people who have the problem of sudden dizziness or fainting. The research was conducted in collaboration with Chung-Ang University Gwangmyeong Hospital, South Korea.
According to the report, the sensors present in Galaxy Watch6 continuously monitor the user's heart rate and other body related signals. PPG sensor and heart rate variability data were specifically used in the research. Through this, the system tries to identify what changes are taking place in the body, which can cause unconsciousness.
This technique is primarily designed to detect a condition called "vasovagal syncope." In this, due to sudden drop in blood pressure and heart rate, the person may feel dizzy or become unconscious. In many cases this condition occurs suddenly, increasing the risk of falling and injury.
Samsung claims that during the study, this system was successful in giving correct warnings in more than 84 percent of the cases. More than 100 patients were included in the research. Experts say that if a person gets the signal a few minutes in advance, he can sit in a safe place or seek help.
Doctors believe that incidents of sudden fainting sometimes become the cause of serious injury. This can be more dangerous, especially for the elderly and heart patients. In such a situation, if the smartwatch can give alerts in advance, then the risks like falling and head injury can be reduced.
At present, Samsung has not made it clear when this technology will be released for common users. The company is still working on this feature. It is believed that in the coming time it can be made available through a software update or new device.
The Galaxy Watch6 is already known for many health features. It has features like heart rate monitoring, sleep tracking, fitness mode and body composition. This is the reason why Samsung is presenting its smartwatch not just as a gadget but as a health monitoring device.
Experts believe that in the coming times, smartwatches will not be limited to just fitness tracking. Features like health monitoring and early disease detection can make them an everyday necessity. This new research by Samsung is being considered a big step in that direction.
