Leave (LinkedIn)
New Delhi: The way Indian offices look at work-life balance is quietly changing. Personal reasons, once wrapped in excuses, are now being shared openly. A recent leave email from an employee proves just how far that shift has come and why honesty at work is finding new respect.
The employee wrote a simple email to his manager asking for one day off on December 16. There was no medical excuse or vague reason. He clearly said his girlfriend was leaving for Uttarakhand the next day and would not return until early January. He wanted to spend time with her before she left.
The message was direct, polite, and unfiltered. No drama. No made-up illness. Just a straightforward request.
The leave request reached Viren Khullar, Director at an oral care brand. Instead of brushing it aside, Khullar was struck by the honesty. He shared a screenshot of the email on LinkedIn, pointing out how earlier employees would often pretend to be sick in such situations.
He noted that today’s workforce prefers planning ahead and being transparent rather than making last-minute excuses.

The manager's response made the moment memorable. In a light, understanding tone, he wrote: “Love cannot be denied. Leave approved.”
That single line struck a chord. It showed trust, warmth, and respect for personal life, without compromising professionalism.
Once the post went viral on LinkedIn, reactions poured in. Many praised the employee for being honest. Others applauded the manager for responding with empathy instead of judgment.
Users said such gestures reduce stress, build trust, and actually encourage better work performance.
The episode reflects a clear shift in workplaces. Employees feel safer speaking openly. Managers are more willing to listen. Personal lives are no longer treated as inconveniences but as realities that deserve respect.
It is a small story, but it sends a big message that honesty still matters, and sometimes, it works.
