Tamil Nadu Political Turn: DMK to tie-up with AIADMK with condition, says sources (x)

Chennai: Tamil Nadu politics now could face a major political upheaval. After the announcement of the result in the state, no party was able to secure a majority. despite winning 108 seats, actor-turned-politicial Vijay’s Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) remains far from a majority, as no one other than the Congress party is willing to support him. Meanwhile, there are reports that two political rivals, the DMK and AIADMK, may join forces with condition.

Will DMK and AIADMK form alliance?

According to sources, the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam is ready join hands with the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam but with one condition.

Sources said that the DMK has told the AIADMK that if it wants to join them, then it will have to break its alliance with the BJP.

What is the buzz?

The DMK and AIADMK, two political parties that contested elections against each other in Tamil Nadu, are now planning to come together.

According to sources, the DMK said that the AIADMK cannot be considered unless it separates from the BJP. If the AIADMK remains in the NDA, discussions on any potential alliance are impossible. The DMK maintains that it will not accept any communal party.

Left sources said that the Left parties will decide on the alliance on the basis of ideology and democracy. TVK has got the public mandate. The Left parties are uneasy about AIADMK because it is an ally of BJP.

What is the political equation right now?

For the first time in Tamil Nadu history, no single party has secured a clear majority.

Thalapathy Vijay's TVK has emerged as the single-largest party with 108 seats in the 234-member assembly, but it remains 1o seats short of the majority number of 118.

Congress, which holds five seats, has announced its support, but even then, the tally remains at 113. The TVK and Congress need the support of other parties, but to keep the DMK and AIADMK out of power, the other parties are not joining the TVK. The PMK has four MLAs, the IUML two, the CPI two, the VCK two, and the CPI-M two. None of them are willing to join the TVK. The DMK has 59 MLAs, while the AIADMK has 47, making the total 106. However, smaller parties may consider joining this alliance. Both Left parties have agreed to support it.
