Hindu devotees are gearing up for Ashadha Amavasya 2025, a significant day dedicated to honoring ancestors. Confusion over whether it falls on June 24 or 25 has been resolved: the correct date is June 25, based on the Udaya Tithi (sunrise-based date). This new moon day in the Krishna Paksha of Ashadha holds immense spiritual importance for Sanatan Dharma followers.
The Amavasya tithi begins at 7:00 PM IST on June 24 and ends at 4:02 PM on June 25, making June 25 the day for rituals, as the tithi prevails at sunrise. The shubh muhurat for puja, tarpan, and charity is from 6:59 AM to 11:45 AM on June 25, enhanced by auspicious yogas like Vriddhi, Veshi, Guru-Aditya, and Gajkesari, which amplify spiritual benefits. These timings ensure optimal merit for ancestor worship and donations.
Ashadha Amavasya is revered for its focus on pitru (ancestors). Devotees perform shraddha, tarpan, and pind daan to seek blessings and liberate ancestral souls from the cycle of rebirth. Bathing in holy rivers like the Ganga, offering charity, and feeding Brahmins are deemed highly meritorious. The day’s rituals, believed to absolve sins, align with the monsoon’s onset, symbolizing renewal and spiritual cleansing.
Devotees start with a pre-dawn holy bath, followed by setting up a puja altar with Lord Shiva and Vishnu idols. Deepa Puja, lighting diyas, and reciting mantras like the Pitru Gayatri are common. Donating food, grains, and clothes to the needy is emphasized, with acts of charity believed to bring peace to ancestors. Fasting until noon enhances the spiritual rewards.
Ashadha Amavasya 2025 on June 25 offers a sacred opportunity for introspection and honoring forebears.
