Astrology News: Ekadashi fasts have special significance in Hinduism, but Nirjala Ekadashi is considered to be the most difficult and virtuous of them. This fast will be observed on 6 June 2025 this year. This fast is the culmination of both physical restraint and mental discipline. On this day, one cannot even consume water, and while fasting for the whole day, he needs to worship Lord Vishnu with reverence and devotion.

One fast, fruit of twelve Ekadashis

It is described in the scriptures that if a person cannot observe the fast of twelve Ekadashis of the year, then only the fast of Nirjala Ekadashi provides the virtue of all those fasts. For this reason, it is considered the best among all the Ekadashis.

Nirjala Ekadashi 2025: Date and Paran Time

  • Ekadashi date starts: June 6 at 2:15 pm
  • Ekadashi Tithi ends at 4:47 am on 7 June
  • Date of fasting: 6 June (as per Udayatithi)
  • Parana (fast opening) time: morning on 7 June

On this day, devotees worship Lord Vishnu and observe a fast that begins after sunrise the following day.

Bhimseni Ekadashi: Special recognition related to Pandavas

Nirjala Ekadashi is also called Bhimseni Ekadashi. According to the legend, the powerful Bhima cannot live without food. But at the behest of Shri Vyas ji, he observed the rigorous fast of the same Ekadashi - Nirjala Ekadashi. Since then, this fast is also known as Bhimseni Ekadashi.

Worship method of Nirjala Ekadashi

  • Take a bath in the morning, wear clean clothes, and take a pledge to fast.
  • In the house or temple, purify the idol or picture of Lord Vishnu and Goddess Lakshmi with Ganga water.
  • Light the lamp, offer yellow flowers, basil, dal, kheer, and fruit.
  • Read Vishnu Sahasranama, Vishnu Chalisa, and Gita.
  • Keep fast throughout the day - no water nor food. Only spend time in devotion and meditation.

What to do on this day

  • Along with the worship of Lord Vishnu, donating water, buttermilk, syrup, fruits, etc. is particularly virtuous.
  • Donate food and clothes to the poor and needy.
  • Study religious texts and adopt a secular lifestyle.
  • Go to the temple of Lord Vishnu and participate in Sandhya Aarti.

What not to do

  • On this day, renounce food, rice, lentils, onions, garlic, and carnivores.
  • Avoid quarreling, abusive, or negative behavior with someone.
  • On the day of fasting, manual labor or travel should be avoided so that concentration in the fast will be maintained.
  • Instead of losing time in vain on mobile or TV, put your mind to meditation, chanting, and satsang.

Nirjala Ekadashi: Why is it so special?

Nirjala Ekadashi is not only the day of fasting, but it is a festival of self-purification, self-control, and closeness to God. In this, restraint is followed by abandoning water, like ascetics. This day is a confluence of tenacity, sacrifice, and reverence that leads the person towards spiritual progress. If you are unable to keep Ekadashi fast throughout the year, then at least do fast on Nirjala Ekadashi. This fast not only weakens the sins of your previous births but also provides peace, prosperity, and spiritual force in your life.
