Regional News: Premanand Maharaj said that today love marriages are common and often driven by personal preferences rather than emotional maturity. Families now accept such unions believing they bring greater compatibility. However, he noted that while the trend has grown quickly, divorce figures have risen equally. He criticised the modern attitude of maintaining relationships for appearance rather than emotion. Maharaj warned that without genuine feelings, marriages struggle to survive.
According to him, love marriage means accepting someone with complete devotion. If a partner truly embraces you with love, they should remain loyal forever. Maharaj claimed that modern youth demand freedom even after marriage, leading to friction. He said that mismatch in mindset and unrealistic expectations often push couples toward separation. In his words, love should bring consistency, not conditional attachment.
He stated that children today receive full freedom to choose their partner but also expect the same liberty within marriage. When both individuals act independently without considering the other’s emotions, conflict arises. After some time, they decide to separate. Maharaj believes selfish behaviour and lack of responsibility are weakening relationships, despite families expecting stronger bonds after self-chosen marriages.
Maharaj mentioned that after divorce, many people start living with someone else. However, two years later, they begin to compare their past partner with the current one. This often leads to regret. He said that the happiness they left behind is sometimes not found again. Such situations worsen emotional well-being and cause long-term distress. He emphasised that temporary attraction should not replace permanent commitment.
He suggested that following dharma offers stability and respect in relationships. According to him, modern-style love marriages ignore the traditional values that help maintain long-term partnership. Maharaj said that emotional imbalance and impatience lead people away from lasting happiness. He believes that returning to spiritual guidance can help couples remain grounded.
He stated that parents often assume that a love marriage will prove stronger, as it is based on mutual understanding. But when feelings begin to weaken, doubts arise. This not only affects the couple but families too. Maharaj stressed that emotional discipline is crucial for long-term harmony. Without it, love loses direction.
Maharaj concluded that love marriage should signify trust and lifelong companionship. He said that modern trends promoting unlimited freedom weaken the foundation of commitment. In his view, choosing a partner is easy, but maintaining love requires sincerity. He urged people to value stability over momentary excitement.
