Business News: Following the new rules announced by the US government, the US has decided to temporarily stop items sent through post. This decision will be applicable to most items from August 25, 2025. However, gift items and letters/documents up to $100 will be accepted as before. On July 30, 2025, the US issued a new rule, Executive Order No. 14324, under which the duty-free exemption on imported items up to $800 has been abolished. From August 29, custom duty will be imposed on all items coming to the US, which will be under the International Emergency Economic Power Act. However, gift items up to $100 will remain duty-free.
According to this new rule, transport companies or "qualified parties" approved by the US CBP will have to collect and deposit the duty on items sent through post. CBP issued some guidelines on August 15, but it is not yet clear who the "qualified parties" will be and what the system of duty collection will be like.
Due to this uncertainty, air carriers going to the US have said that they will not accept postal items after August 25 due to operational and technical difficulties. Therefore, the Department of Posts has announced that until further notice, only letters, documents, and gift items up to $100 will be accepted for the US. All other types of postal services will remain closed.
The Department of Posts is working with CBP and United States Postal Services (USPS) to resolve the issue so that full services can be restored as soon as possible. Customers who have already booked something that cannot be sent now can get a refund for the postage. The department said that we are very sorry for the inconvenience caused to the customers, and we are trying our best to start all postal services for America as soon as possible.
