New Delhi: The Central Government, through an amendment to the Gas Control Order, has clarified that a single household is permitted to hold only one LPG connection. Possessing more than one LPG connection is now strictly prohibited. India's oil marketing companies—HPCL, Indian Oil and Bharat Petroleum—have issued a joint public notice appealing to consumers to immediately surrender any additional LPG connections they may hold. Strict action regarding this rule will be enforced starting June 1.
For a single family unit (comprising a husband, wife, married children, and dependent parents) sharing a common kitchen, only one LPG connection shall be considered valid.
Gas supply may be suspended for households found to possess additional connections. Supply will be restored only after all such additional connections have been surrendered.
If, after surrendering the additional connections, only one connection remains, it may be converted into a Double Bottle Connection (DBC). Consumers who have obtained a PNG (Piped Natural Gas) connection are required to immediately surrender their existing LPG connection.
The LPG connection must be surrendered within 30 days of obtaining a PNG connection.
Alternatively, consumers may opt to obtain a 'Transfer Voucher,' which would allow them to reactivate an LPG connection in the future, should they relocate to an area where PNG services are unavailable.
- To make new LPG connections available to needy families.
- To curb the misuse and black marketing of subsidized LPG cylinders.
- To promote the use of clean fuels, such as PNG.
- All three oil marketing companies have requested consumers to comply with these regulations and to contact their respective distributors to complete the process of surrendering any additional connections. This process can also be completed online.
