Washington: America turned 250 years old today. July 4, 1776 was the day when 13 British colonies declared independence from Great Britain. That was 250 years ago and now the whole country is celebrating. Parades are happening everywhere, fireworks are going off and parties are in full swing. The White House is also holding events.

The red sky scared people?

Something strange happened in New York City as the sky turned red. It was a deep red all over the city. People got worried and thought it was a bad sign. But that's not true as strong storm was passing through the city. At sunset, the red dust and clouds made the whole sky look red. That is all. The Indian Embassy in New York put out a message. They said the red sky was just because of the storm. There were no bad omens but just a weather.

How India sends wishes?

India's mission in New York congratulated America. They posted: "The Indian team in New York congratulates the American people on the 250th Independence Day. We celebrate our shared commitment to freedom and democratic values. Happy Independence Day America." America's Embassy in India released a video. It showed the bond between the world's oldest and biggest democracies. The video had footage of PM Modi and President Trump meeting at the G7 summit in France. They shook hands warmly. and showed strong diplomatic ties.

What the leaders had said?

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio called this a moment of strength and continuity. US Ambassador Sergio Gore agreed.Congress leader Shashi Tharoor said India and America are united in democratic spirit. The ties between citizens are growing deeper.

What is the journey from small to superpower?

In 1776, America had just 2.5 million people. Now look at it. One of the world's most powerful nations. It controls 25 percent of the world's economy. It is the biggest economy and a technology superpower. New York is its largest city. The US dollar is the world's strongest currency. Harvard and MIT are here along with several other best universities in the world. Hollywood is here, that considered as an entertainment capital of the world.

Why this matters?

250 years ago, a few colonies fought for freedom. Now that freedom has made America a global power. Not through war alone but the ideas, innovation, democratic framework as well. The whole world watched America grow. It faced good times and bad times, but ultimately it grew. Today America celebrates that journey.
