Pakistan: The situation is worsening rapidly in Balochistan, Pakistan. In the last few days, a new wave of violence and clashes has destabilized the entire area. Its impact is not limited to Pakistan only, but China is also openly expressing concern about it. The reason is clear: there are huge Chinese investments and hundreds of Chinese employees working in this area.
Rebel organization Baloch Liberation Army has started 'Operation Hereof' from January 31. Under this, Pakistani Army camps, government offices and security positions are being targeted. According to local reports, 300 to 400 people are being claimed dead in the clashes so far, although official figures are not clear.
Actually, many big Chinese projects are going on in Gwadar Port and other parts of Balochistan. A large number of Chinese engineers and technical personnel are deployed here. China fears that rebels may target these projects or employees. Therefore he has sought firm security guarantee from the Pakistan government.
According to reports, in view of the current situation, China has temporarily stopped ground operations at many places. Staff have been recalled from some areas. Engineers and technicians posted in Gwadar have been shifted to safer cities by special flights as a precautionary measure. At present the teams are staying in Islamabad or other safe places.
China's Ambassador to Pakistan Jiang Zaidong met Ishaq Dar on this issue. He clearly said that security arrangements should be strengthened before restarting the project. The Pakistan government has assured security, but China does not seem to be completely satisfied at the moment.
There have been reports of firing and attacks at many places from Quetta to Gwadar. There are continuous encounters between the army and the rebels. BLA has announced the second phase of its operation, while the Pakistani Army is also engaged in retaliatory action.
Overall, Balochistan is currently sitting on a pile of gunpowder. There is little hope of the violence stopping, and China's growing concern suggests that its impact is now being felt at the international level as well.
