International News: After spending 156 days in Bangladesh jail, Hindu monk Chinmay Krishna Das was finally able to see the light of justice on Wednesday. The Bangladesh High Court gave him bail - it is not just a legal decision, but a cultural and moral message that has reached the community that has been marginalized for decades, silent and insecure.

Accusation of insulting the country's flag

Chinmay Das, who was arrested from Dhaka Airport on 25 November 2024, was accused of insulting the country's flag during a Hindu rally. But experts believe that this was just an excuse. The real reason was - his bold voice, which was constantly rising against the attacks on Hindu minorities in Bangladesh.Das, former priests of ISKCON, had become a face that became a symbol of hope for his community even further than the Constitution.

Resentment in Bangladesh after Chinmay's arrest

After his arrest, there was a lot of resentment not only in Bangladesh, but also in India. The Government of India took Das's arrest seriously and the Indian mission in Dhaka expressed many concerns about his health and safety. This issue was not just the arrest of a religious leader, it was a fight for the trust that every minority attaches to their democracy.Advocate Apoorva Kumar Bhattacharya and Pralad Debnath, who are advocating on behalf of Das, made it clear before the court that the arrest is motivated by politics and Das is being punished for being a critic of the government. He said that his health in jail had deteriorated and he was not even given necessary treatment.

Violence in more than 50 districts

Following the continuous petitions, a bench of two judges of the High Court finally approved his bail. However, this battle has not been completely over yet - Bangladesh Supreme Court's appellate division can stop this bail.About 8% Hindus are part of  Bangladesh's total population. In the last few months, there were reports of violence from more than 50 districts - temples were broken, houses were burnt, and silent people were said to be survived. But Chinmay Krishna Das did not stay quite. Perhaps this vigor brought him to the prison cell.

But now that they are about to come out, it is not just the release of one person, this is a message

  • That the truth can be imprisoned, but cannot be finished.
  • Even after 156 days of silence, a voice may arise again.
  • And also that the battle of minorities of Bangladesh is now being heard in international forums, not only inside.
