Tel Aviv: The Middle East conflict continues to gather intensity with Israeli and American forces are raining missiles and bunker-buster bombs upon Iran, while the Iranian military is delivering a fierce counter-response to both Israel and the United States. Just a day ago, Iran launched a major attack on Israel's Haifa refinery and also targeted a U.S. F-35 fighter jet with a missile. Over the course of these 20 days of warfare, the U.S. has lost three F-35 fighter jets and six KC tankers.

What step has the US taken against Iran?

Meanwhile, the United States has taken a significant step toward bringing the conflict with Iran to an end. The U.S. has deployed three warships to the Middle East; these include the amphibious assault ships USS Tripoli and USS Boxer. In doing so, the U.S. is positioning approximately 4,000 fresh troops in close proximity to the Gulf nations—forces that will engage in combat against Iran. The warships the U.S. is dispatching to the Middle East are equipped with advanced missile systems.

Furthermore, F-35 fighter jets are also stationed aboard these vessels. It is believed that the U.S. has taken this step to de-escalate the mounting tensions near the Strait of Hormuz and to liberate the region from Iranian control. Satellite imagery has captured the USS Tripoli transiting through the South China Sea, accompanied by two escort ships. The warship is expected to enter the combat zone around March 22 or 23.

What is the USS Tripoli?

The USS Tripoli (LHA-7) is the second vessel of the America-class amphibious assault ships, designed specifically to facilitate air operations and the deployment of U.S. Marine troops. It is capable of carrying approximately 2,500 personnel; currently, 2,000 sailors are stationed aboard the vessel. The USS Tripoli measures approximately 844 feet in length and has a displacement ranging between 45,000 and 50,000 tons. Modern stealth fighter jets—such as the F-35B Lightning II—as well as MV-22 Ospreys and various types of attack helicopters can be deployed from this vessel. Its primary mission is to safeguard maritime routes and to keep troops ready for ground assaults whenever necessary. Notably, it lacks a "well deck" for landing craft. This specific design configuration allows for a larger hangar, increased aviation fuel capacity, and more extensive space for aircraft maintenance.

The USS Tripoli is currently transporting troops from the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU). This is a rapid-response force comprising approximately 2,200 Marines and Navy sailors stationed in Okinawa, Japan. The MEU incorporates both ground and air combat units. According to a report by Fox News, the Pentagon is deploying the USS Tripoli Amphibious Ready Group (ARG) alongside the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU), which constitutes an integral part of its own strike group.

Has the US given a Strong Message to Iran?

According to a report by The New York Times, more than 50,000 U.S. troops are currently deployed across West Asia. The arrival of these three warships—particularly the USS Tripoli—will further augment the already substantial U.S. military presence in the region, thereby intensifying military pressure on Iran.

According to experts, the U.S. is positioning itself to respond rapidly in the region, as securing critical oil transit routes—such as the Strait of Hormuz—remains a top priority. This recent move by the U.S. is also being interpreted as a stern message directed at Iran. In this context, by dispatching three new warships, the U.S. has sent a clear signal that it intends to keep all operational options—whether air, maritime, or ground-based—at the ready against Iran.
