French government on Thursday has evacuated over 1,079 of its citizens including Indian nationals over the past two days, following the military coup in Niger.

Taking to Twitter, the French ambassador to India, Emmanuel Lenain said, โ€œFollowing the military coup in #Niger, France has evacuated 992 people from the country through several rotation flights over the past two days. In addition to 560 French citizens, the flights evacuated nationals from many other countries, including Indian๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡ณ citizens.โ€

According to the information, four flights carrying nationals have been departed from Niger. France ministry in its tweet mentioned, โ€œEvacuation operations are now complete. France has evacuated 1,079 people: 577 French nationals and their dependants, and a large number of nationals from otherย  countriesโ€

In a statement released by the French ministry the evacuation of the nationals from other countries started following the situation in Niamey, where the supporters of coup in Niger burned French flags and attacked the French embassy in Niger on Sunday. In response to the security of the international citizen, at least four European countries announced their plans to evacuate their nationals, which is underway.

On August 1, France diplomacy tweeted, โ€œIn view of the situation in Niamey (โ€ฆ) France is preparing the evacuation of its nationals and those European nationals who would like to leave the country.โ€

Meanwhile, the French President Emmanuel Macron criticised it, and said that any attack in French interest will have โ€˜swift and uncompromising response.โ€™

According to CNN, the pro-coup protesters were chanting the names of Russian President Vladimir Putin. In the masses, they were chanting slogans, โ€˜live long Putinโ€™ and โ€˜live long Russiaโ€™, despite several requests from the Kremlin to release the nationโ€™s democratically elected president, Mohamed Bazoum.
