Is the US Selling Air-to-Air Missiles to Pakistan? Here's what US embassy said (X/TIN)
US embassy on the US Selling Air-to-Air Missiles to Pakistan: Amid the reports of the US delivering new advanced medium-range Air-to-Air Missiles (AMRAAMs) to Pakistan, a clarification has been issued by the US embassy regarding the same. In its clarification statement, the US embassy said that no new air-to-air missiles (AMRAAMs) would be delivered to Pakistan.
Earlier, reports surfaced that Pakistan was expected to get AIM-120 Advanced Medium-Range Air-to-Air Missiles (AMRAAM) from the US. The reports further stated that an arms contract by the US Department of War (DoW), had listed Pakistan among the 35 buyers for the missiles.
On the contrary, the US Embassy and Consulates in India stated, “On September 30, 2025, the Department of War released a list of standard contract announcements, which referred to an amendment to an existing Foreign Military Sales contract for sustainment and spares for several countries, including Pakistan.”
“…No part of this referenced contract modification is for deliveries of new Advanced Medium-Range Air-to-Air Missiles (AMRAAMs) to Pakistan. The sustainment does not include an upgrade to any of Pakistan’s current capabilities,” the statement further read.
Meanwhile, as per the original Department of War statement, the contract includes foreign military sales to countries such as the Australia, Oman, United Kingdom, Germany, Israel, Qatar, Singapore, Japan, Canada, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, Türkiye, Italy, Kuwait, and Pakistan. Reportedly, the contract is likely to be completed by May 2030.
It is to be mentioned here that Pakistan in 2007, had purchased around 700 AMRAAMs for its F-16 fleet. The report of the new missile deal surfaced after US President Donald Trump, Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Army Chief General Asim Munir September meeting.
