New Delhi: The results of the US midterm elections have been a shock for President Donald Trump. Several prominent figures in the Republican Party lost the election. Trump's Republican Party has lost its hold on the Senate. This is a significant defeat for any US president in a midterm election. Following the results, the Trump administration has begun questioning the president's policies. Vice President J.D. Vance cited four reasons for the defeat, placing the Iran war at the top of these reasons.

After the midterm election results were announced, J.D. Vance wrote a lengthy post on the social media site X, arguing that many voters who supported Donald Trump had switched sides in protest of the administration. He said the Republican Party didn't lose primarily because its supporters didn't show up to the polling stations. Instead, he argued that many who voted for the Trump-Vance ticket in the 2024 presidential election turned against the party in the November 3 midterm elections.

Vance explains four reasons why Trump supporters are angry

US Vice President J.D. Vance cited four main reasons for the defeat: the Iran war, rising inflation, the administration's America First agenda, and US relations with Israel. "That war is the reason we lost," Vance wrote. He said that if people want to argue that losing control of the Senate for the next six years is justified, then they should. "Whether you agree or disagree, at least it's an honest statement," he said. Vance's statement clearly reflects the atmosphere within the Trump administration, where he believes the Iran war has become a political burden for him.

Trump supporters did not vote for the party

Vance said that even those who support Trump didn't vote for the Republican Party this time because of the administration's policies. He wrote that Republican data analysts spent considerable time studying the composition of the electorate to determine whether the people who turned out to vote were the same as those who supported Trump in 2024.

Although polls had predicted a landslide victory for the Democrats, initial internal assessments showed that Republican supporters were turning out in significant numbers, keeping the party in the race. Vance said he asked an analyst if these figures indicated Republicans could pull off a surprise election night. The analyst replied, "No. We may outperform the polls. But the data is showing that many voters who voted for Trump/Vance in 2024 are angry and planning to vote for the other side (the opposition). Our supporters are turning out, but they may not vote for us."

Experts identified four key issues

The US Vice President explained that he was aware of the party's deteriorating fortunes in the midterm elections. He asked analysts what could be done to turn this defeat into victory. According to Vance, experts identified four key issues: ending the war, reducing inflation, and the administration's commitment to America First and transforming Washington's relationship with Israel.

It's worth noting that US President Donald Trump has dramatically altered US policies during his second term. His supporters supported him on many issues. However, when it came to rising inflation in the US, Trump's supporters deserted him. At least the midterm election results are telling a similar story. Crude oil, which became more expensive due to the Iran war, proved to be a major headache for Trump. Trump went so far as to win this election that he even began purchasing diesel from Russia. But even this could not avert his defeat.

Trump's son also supported JD Vance

JD Vance has attributed America's midterm defeat to the Iran war. President Donald Trump's son, Donald Trump Jr., has endorsed Vance's analysis. He shared Vance's ex-post, writing, "Every word in this post is 100 percent accurate."

Donald Trump loses majority in the House and Senate

This analysis by US Vice President JD Vance comes at a time when Trump has lost his majority in the Senate and the House. In the midterm elections, elections were held for a total of 435 seats in the House. Of these, the anti-Trump Democratic Party won 228 seats, while the Republicans won only 139. On the other hand, elections were held for 35 of the 100 Senate seats. Of these, the Democratic Party won 20, while the Republican Party won only 13. Counting is still underway for two seats. Now, in the 100-seat Senate, the Democratic Party has 54 seats, and the Republican Party has 44.
