Muzaffarnagar: For many people, Diwali is a time of happiness and family celebrations, but for an elderly man who has lost his only son, the festival carries a different meaning. A touching moment unfolded at the Sadar Tehsil office in Muzaffarnagar when SDM Shubham Srivastava offered the elderly visitor sweets and Diwali wishes, leaving him deeply emotional.
The elderly man had visited the tehsil office to seek help with a personal grievance. After listening to his concerns, the SDM directed a subordinate official to ensure that the matter was resolved before Diwali so that the elderly man would not have to make repeated visits to government offices.
During their conversation, SDM Shubham Srivastava learned that the elderly man had lost his only son. Moved by this information, the officer extended a gesture of kindness by wishing him a happy Diwali and presenting him with sweets.
The gesture appeared to touch the elderly man deeply. Overwhelmed with emotion, his eyes filled with tears as he placed his hand on the SDM's head and offered his blessings.
Another aspect of the matter came to light during the interaction. The elderly man had reportedly also faced police proceedings under Sections 107/16 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC).
After learning about the issue, the SDM instructed subordinate officials to examine the matter and take necessary steps to provide relief in accordance with the law.
The incident at Sadar Tehsil, just ahead of Diwali, went beyond an ordinary public grievance hearing. While the officer took steps towards resolving the elderly man's administrative concerns, his compassionate gesture also offered a moment of emotional support to someone dealing with a personal loss.
The elderly man's blessings became the most memorable moment of the interaction, highlighting the human side of public service.
