Muzaffarnagar: The Food Safety Department conducted an extensive inspection drive across Muzaffarnagar on Wednesday amid concerns over possible adulteration in sweets during the festive season. Eight joint teams comprising food safety officials from Saharanpur, Muzaffarnagar and Shamli districts carried out simultaneous raids at several prominent sweet shops, collecting samples of sweets, khoya and paneer for laboratory testing.

The operation began around 11 am, with teams inspecting establishments across the city and extending their action to Mansoorpur and Rampur Tiraha. The large-scale exercise created a stir among traders as several well-known sweet shops came under the department's scrutiny.

Which Sweet Shops Came Under the Scanner?

Nandi Sweets and Rishi Sweets were among the establishments subjected to particularly detailed inspections. Officials collected a comparatively higher number of samples from both outlets. The department indicated that cases related to sweets from these establishments had reportedly surfaced earlier as well, prompting closer examination during the latest drive.

The inspection also covered several other popular outlets, including Shankar Sweets, Sweet Corner, Madanlal, Garg Sweets and Daulatram Sweets.

Beyond the main city markets, the teams inspected Bhagat Ji Sweets in Mansoorpur, Bikaner and Haldiram outlets at Rampur Tiraha, along with Ruchi Sweets in New Mandi.

Samples Sent for Laboratory Examination

During the inspections, officials collected samples of different varieties of sweets, khoya and paneer wherever adulteration was suspected. The collected samples were properly sealed and are being sent to laboratories for detailed examination.

The actual quality of the food products and the presence or absence of adulteration will be established only after the laboratory reports are received.

Eight-Team Operation Creates Stir Among Traders

The joint inspection drive is being described as one of the largest food safety enforcement exercises conducted in Muzaffarnagar so far. The deployment of eight teams from three districts simultaneously brought several prominent establishments under inspection.

With samples now sent for laboratory testing, shop owners and consumers are awaiting the results. The findings will determine whether the inspected food products complied with prescribed food safety standards or whether further action is required against the establishments concerned.
