Washington: The US Justice Department on Friday made public a large part of the investigation records related to Jeffrey Epstein. The number of these documents is said to be more than three lakhs. The move came after pressure from Congress, which set a deadline for declassifying the files through new bipartisan legislation.

Why has the Jeffrey Epstein case been so sensitive?

Jeffrey Epstein was a wealthy financier who was convicted of sexually abusing minors. In 2019, he died in a New York prison, which was officially considered a suicide. Questions have been raised for a long time regarding the cases related to Epstein, and these files have come to light amidst these questions.

President Donald Trump signed the “Epstein Files Transparency Act” on November 19. Under this law, the Justice Department had to make public most of the non-confidential information related to Epstein within 30 days. After this the department released these documents on Friday.

How many files were released, and what will happen next?

Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanch said that in addition to the files just released, hundreds of thousands more pages will be made public in the coming weeks. He also said that these records included the names of more than 1,200 victims or their families. It was also warned that every effort has been made to hide personal information, but some sensitive details may be accidentally exposed.

Which big names have been mentioned?

There are also some photographs in these documents in which former US President Bill Clinton is seen. In one photo he is seen in a swimming pool with Epstein's associate Ghislaine Maxwell. Clinton has previously said she had no knowledge of Epstein's criminal activities and regretted associating with him.

Politics has also intensified regarding this entire matter. Democrat leaders say that not all files were released and the government is not acting in accordance with the spirit of the law. At the same time, the White House claims that the Trump administration has taken more steps than before in the interest of the victims.

In which direction can this matter go next?

Jeffrey Epstein's case still remains sensitive in American politics. Questions have been raised about his relationships with many powerful names. In such a situation, even though the files have been released, this issue does not seem to be resolved soon.
