New Delhi: On February 28, the US and Israel launched a largest scale attack on Iran. Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has been killed in this Middle East conflict while several senior Iranian leaders and strategic locations were also targeted. Now, several important revelations have emerged regarding this attack wic also being hailed as the Third Gulf War. Reports indicate that Israel used the 'Blue Sparrow' missile, considered to be the most dangerous missile in the world to kill Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

According to reports, this missile first travels close to the Earth's atmosphere and then returns to its target at very high speeds, making it extremely difficult to intercept. This makes it also known as the "missile from space." Iran reportedly fired this missile to target an important military leadership meeting in Tehran which was being presided over by Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

What is the Blue Sparrow missile?

The Blue Sparrow missile was developed by Israel. It is an advanced air-launched ballistic missile. According to a report in The Telegraph, this missile has a range of approximately 1,240 miles, or about 2,000 kilometers. The missile is approximately 6.5 meters long and weighs approximately 1.9 tons.

This missile is typically launched from a fighter aircraft and travels on a ballistic trajectory. It then releases a re-entry vehicle that strikes the target at extremely high speeds. Defense analysts say that different versions of the Sparrow missile system have been developed to allow fighter aircraft to remotely launch ballistic-style weapons. This allows strikes to be carried out even in areas with heavy air defenses, without requiring the aircraft to be directly exposed to danger.

When did the attack on Ayatollah Ali Khamenei take place?

The precision with which Israel carried out its strikes in Tehran clearly demonstrates a highly coordinated operation that utilized intelligence, surveillance, and precision weapons. Reports indicate that Israeli F-15 fighter jets and other aircraft were dispatched on the mission around 7:30 a.m. on February 28th. Approximately two hours later, these aircraft fired approximately 30 missiles, including Blue Sparrow systems, at a compound associated with Khamenei. Several senior Iranian political and military officials were present at the compound at the time. Khamenei was killed in the attack.
