Islamabad: In a major upgrade of its missile defence, the Pakistan Air Force (PAF) conducted a flight test of the Taimur weapon system on Saturday. This is an air-launched cruise missile with a range of up to 600 kilometers.

What do we know about the missile test?

The Pakistani military has claimed that the missile was indigenously developed and that the test was completely successful. A statement issued by the Pakistani military's media wing said that the successful test of the Taimur missile is a major achievement in Pakistan's aerospace and defence program.

Is Pakistan scared after Operation Sindoor?

Last year in May, India had launched Operation Sindoor against Pakistan, which led to a four-day military conflict between the two countries. During this time, drones, missiles, and aerial weapons were used. India carried out attacks in Pakistan using the BrahMos missile. Now, Pakistan also appears to be trying to enhance its air power.

What are the features of Taimur missile?

The Pakistani military said that the successful launch of Taimur is another significant milestone in advancing national aerospace and defence capabilities. According to the Pakistani military, the Taimur air-launched cruise missile is capable of accurately targeting enemy ground and naval targets at a range of 600 kilometers.

“This missile is equipped with a state-of-the-art navigation and guidance system. It is designed to fly at very low altitudes. This low-altitude flight capability allows it to effectively evade enemy air and missile defense systems,” the Pakistani military said in a statement.

The Pakistani military said that Taimur's precision strike capability significantly enhances the Air Force's conventional deterrence capabilities and operational flexibility. Pakistan Air Force Chief Zaheer Ahmed Babar Sidhu described the project as strengthening Pakistan's defence capabilities.
