Rent related issue turned fatal: Karnal brothers arrested for killing M Tech student in Australia

Abhijeet and Robin Gartan, two brothers from Karnal, Haryana have been arrested in the fatal killing of a 22-year-old M Tech student from India. According to the sources, the Gartan brothers were arrested in New South Wales’s Goulburn on Tuesday, two days after the killing of Navjeet Sandhu in the Melbourne suburb of Ormond. The victim has been identified as Navjeet Sandhu.

According to the sources, they both had a conflict due to rentals and have been absconding since Sunday, after the killing of Sandhu and injuring another person named Sharvan Kumar at an apartment in Melbourne’s Southeast. As per the statement of the victim's uncle, he was stabbed several times in his chest with a knife, when he was trying to confront a rent-related issue among a group of Indian students.

As per details, Sandhu moved to Australia on a student visa almost one and a half years back, for which his father sold more than an acre of land for the funds.

The Victoria Police has explained the two accused as, a 27-year-old Ormond man who has been charged with murder and attempted murder, while a 26-year-old Ormond man has been charged with affray.

Both the suspects are likely to be presented before court tomorrow.
