Russia-Iran Military Supply: Moscow Sends Drone Parts, Explosives and Ammunition to Tehran via Caspian Route (Image Courtesy: Facebook)
Tehran: After the recent war between Iran and America-Israel, Tehran is trying to strengthen its military reserves. Meanwhile, a report has claimed that Russia is sending military goods to Iran through the Caspian Sea. It is said to include explosives, drone parts and ammunition.
This information has come to light on the basis of a European government document obtained by NBC News and confirmation from a Western official. According to the report, analysts reviewing satellite images have also found indications that indicate the possible movement of material related to ballistic missiles.
According to the report, the alleged consignment going from Russia to Iran includes TNT, drone related parts and ammunition. However, the total quantity of goods sent and its complete information have not been made public.
The report comes at a time when Iran needs to rebuild its weapons stockpile after damage to its missiles, drones and military infrastructure in the recent conflict.
The Caspian Sea is an important route for maritime communication between Russia and Iran. In the past too, there have been allegations of movement of military material and drone-related items between the two countries through this sea route.
The EU documents also mention some Russian shipping companies and ships accused of transporting drone parts and military material from Iran to Russia via the Caspian Sea.
During the Ukraine war, Iran has been accused of providing drones and related items to Russia. Now, on the contrary, the report says that Russia is providing military supplies to Iran.
If this information proves true, it would be another sign of growing military cooperation between Moscow and Tehran. Defense and security cooperation between the two countries has steadily increased over the years.
The report said analysts reviewing satellite images found indications of materials that could be used in the manufacture of ballistic missiles. However, these photographs have not completely confirmed any specific missile system or item.
Therefore, this part is currently being seen only as a claim made in the report.
Movement through the Caspian Sea provides Russia and Iran with a sea route that is different from other international sea routes. There has been trade and military movement in this region between the two countries for a long time.
The US and European countries have previously taken action against the delivery of drones and military material from Iran to Russia via the Caspian Sea. The US State Department imposed sanctions on some Russian shipping companies in 2024, saying their ships had transported UAV-related materials and ammunition from Iran to Russia via the Caspian Sea.
The quantity of goods sent is not clear in the recent reports. Therefore, it is too early to say to what extent Iran will be able to strengthen its military capability with the alleged Russian supply.
However, if Russia's supply of arms and military material continues, it could help Iran rebuild its weapons and drone stockpile after recent losses. Additionally, this may also increase the concerns of Western countries regarding military cooperation between Russia and Iran.
