Strait of Hormuz Blocked Again: Iran Shuts Key Oil Route Citing Ceasefire Violations (Pinterest)
Tehran: Iran's military command said Saturday they're closing the Strait of Hormuz again. Their reasons are the Israeli attacks in Lebanon and the US breaking promises. They said the Americans aren't ending the war like they agreed to. Ships were actually moving through the strait after a new US-Iran deal got signed earlier this week. Now Iran's shutting it down. The military also warned that if the fighting doesn't stop, they've got more moves planned.
Israeli strikes hit southern Lebanon on Saturday. Killed at least 16 people including two kids. This happened hours after people started saying there was a ceasefire deal. The fighting keeps threatening to wreck the agreement the US and Iran just made to stop the war.
Iran's military headquarters said the US isn't following through on the first part of the deal they just signed. They're calling what Israel's doing in Lebanon a "constant, non-stop violation" of the ceasefire.
Their statement, "America made promises and broke them. Israel won't stop attacking Lebanon. Hundreds of thousands of people are being displaced. Israeli forces won't leave southern Lebanon. So the Strait of Hormuz is closed to all ships now."
Iran said this closure is their first move. If the deal keeps getting violated, they're planning additional steps. The statement basically said: we're doing this to force the other side to keep its word.
On Saturday, Israeli forces said their fresh strikes were payback. Hezbollah keeps breaking the ceasefire, they said. Israel's job is protecting its people and soldiers. The Israeli Air Force posted that Hezbollah launched over 50 attacks on Israeli forces overnight. So Israel struck back, hit rocket positions, weapons storage, command centres. All in southern Lebanon. Israel says it's sticking to the ceasefire agreement but won't let anyone attack its forces or civilians. They'll keep hitting anything they see as a threat.
