Taiwan: The earthquake that occurred in Yilan, Taiwan, at around 11:05 pm on Saturday night disturbed people's sleep. According to the country's Central Meteorological Department, the epicenter of the tremor was about 32 kilometers offshore from Yilan County Hall. The focus was at a depth of about 73 kilometers, so the tremors were felt mildly but prolonged. Since it was late at night, many people got scared and came out.
No major damage or loss of life has been confirmed yet. A tsunami warning has also not been issued, which is a matter of relief. However, buildings shook in the capital, Taipei, and surrounding areas, and in some places people came out of their homes in fear. According to local media, the tremors were felt throughout Taiwan.

Taiwan falls in an earthquake-prone area, so tremors are not new here. But incidents have been recorded continuously for some time. Just three days ago, an earthquake of 6.1 magnitude was recorded in southeastern Taitung. Whereas the 7.4 magnitude earthquake that occurred in April 2024 was considered to be the biggest in the last 25 years, in which 17 people died and landslides occurred at many places.
