Trump Administration Orders Pentagon to Resume Supply of 2,000-Pound Bombs to Israel, Reversing Biden’s Restrictions (File Image)
World News: President Donald Trump’s administration has ordered the Pentagon to lift a hold on the supply of 2,000-pound bombs to Israel, a restriction that was imposed by his predecessor, Joe Biden. This information was confirmed by a White House official.
During Biden's presidency, the U.S. paused the delivery of approximately 3,500 bombs to Israel, including the significant 2,000-pound explosives. This decision was made in May as part of an effort to mitigate civilian casualties in Rafah, a densely populated area, amidst Israel's military operations against Hamas in Gaza. The hold reflected growing frustration with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's handling of the conflict and was seen as a serious indication of discontent within U.S.-Israeli relations.
The recent decision aligns with Trump's campaign promises to furnish Israel with necessary military resources to address ongoing conflicts. Trump has expressed increasing impatience with the situation, urging Israel in a March interview with Israel Hayom to "finish up your war" and "get it done." His administration has maintained close communication with Netanyahu over the past year, participating in negotiations related to ceasefires and hostage exchanges during the transition from Biden's administration.
Although a ceasefire deal was announced shortly before Trump's inauguration, he has been quick to claim credit for these diplomatic efforts. This includes a recent statement regarding a prisoner swap involving four Israeli soldiers and around 200 Palestinians held in Israeli prisons.
As tensions continue in the region, Trump's administration's actions signal a significant shift in U.S. foreign policy towards Israel, emphasizing military support and engagement.
