World News: A powerful earthquake shook southwestern Japan on Monday, and the Japan Meteorological Agency issued tsunami warnings for waves up to one meter (three feet) high. This is the latest in a series of earthquakes that often strike the island nation, which sits along the volatile "Ring of Fire.
The earthquake was said to have occurred early in the morning on Monday and had reportedly been felt in many southwestern parts of Japan. The JMA immediately released its report on the magnitude of the quake, yet so far, no confirmation exists regarding the number of damaged places and casualties. The authorities immediately ordered precautionary measures to protect its residents from aftershocks, which may arrive.
For one-meter-tall waves as a response to the earthquake, a JMA advisory cautioned coastal inhabitants that such waves will eventually hit; there is the possible need for evacuations or retreats on sites.
Japan was always aware and prepared and put emergency guidelines with the motive that the public would remain in the right place in case the threat aggravates.
Geopolitically, Japan is on the "Ring of Fire" and is highly prone to earthquakes and tsunamis. This tectonic zone-rich section of earth is associated with active volcanoes and fault lines and is one of the most active regions in terms of seismic activity, so frequent earthquake activity is a guarantee in Japan.
