The happiness of birthday celebrations with his cousin in Bengaluru was marred by a gruesome accident near Hennur Bande around 11:20 pm on Saturday. Bhanu Teja, a 12-year-old Vedic student from Chittoor, Andhra Pradesh, had come to the city for Vedic studies and was residing in a temple in R T Nagar.
Teja was riding pillion on his cousin's motorcycle, Chakradaran, a temple priest, when the canter truck hit him from the rear. Near Hennur Cross flyover, en route to it, the truck rammed into the motorcycle. Both were flung on the road. Teja was crushed by the truck. It has been observed that although he wore the helmet, the severe impact killed Teja on the spot.
As soon as he was involved in the accident, the truck driver ran away, leaving the truck behind. The truck was taken up by the police, and they proceeded to follow the driver, who was moving to his home after delivering the cement bags at his destination. The authorities claim that they will arrest the truck driver, and the owner of the truck is supposed to ensure the surrender of the truck driver.
Teja was the elder son of a farmer who had dropped out of school after Class 6 to fulfill his parents' desire of becoming a priest. His death on his birthday has plunged his family into deep mourning. His body was released to his family after a postmortem examination for final rites.
