US Exit from 66 international bodies, including India-Led Solar Alliance Shakes Global Climate Cooperation (X: @WhiteHouse)
Washington: The US has formally pulled out of the India and France-led International Solar Alliance (ISA), along with 65 other international bodies. The decision came late Wednesday after US President Donald Trump signed a presidential memorandum directing the government to leave organisations that, in his view, are "contrary to the interests of the United States."
According to the White House statement, the administration believes many global organisations do not align with America’s economic and sovereign interests. The document says the US will stop participating and, wherever legally possible, halt funding to the groups listed.
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio described the step on social media as fulfilling a promise to stop subsidising what he called “anti-American, useless or wasteful” international agencies.
"Today, President Trump announced the U.S. is leaving 66 anti-American, useless, or wasteful international organizations. Review of additional international organizations remains ongoing. These withdrawals keep a key promise President Trump made to Americans - we will stop subsidizing globalist bureaucrats who act against our interests. The Trump Administration will always put America and Americans first," he wrote on X.

These withdrawals keep a key promise President Trump made to Americans - we will stop…
The announcement was made in the statement of the Presidential Memoranda shared by the White House that mentioned withdrawal from 35-non non-UN organisations and 31 UN entities.
The withdrawal affects a wide range of international entities. Among them is the International Solar Alliance, which was set up by India and France in 2015 to promote solar energy cooperation and attract large-scale investment in renewable power.
Other environmental and climate groups included in the list are the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) and the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), as well as several United Nations bodies.

The International Solar Alliance is an intergovernmental group focused on boosting solar energy use and lowering costs. It brings together dozens of member countries, mainly those across the sunbelt, to pool resources, technology and finance for cleaner energy projects.
ISA has been seen as an important platform for emerging economies to build renewable energy capacity, attract investment and share expertise. Its withdrawal by the US marks a high-profile departure from a major climate-related initiative.
