International News: The administration of U.S. President Donald Trump is once again taking a tough stance in the name of national security. It is now considering a partial or full travel ban on citizens from 36 additional countries for entry into the United States. The reason cited behind this potential action is security concerns and the lack of credible identity documentation systems. Notably, earlier this month, the U.S. had already imposed entry restrictions on citizens from 12 countries.

State Department Expresses Serious Concerns

The U.S. State Department, through a diplomatic cable signed by Secretary of State Marco Rubio, has warned these nations about the issue. The communication states that the respective countries must take corrective measures in line with American standards and security requirements within 60 days. If these requirements are not met by the deadline, the U.S. may go ahead with the proposed travel restrictions.

Questions Raised Over Passport and Identity Systems

According to a report by The Washington Post, the diplomatic cable highlights concerns in countries lacking reliable institutions for issuing identification documents. The security of passports in several nations has also been called into question, making it difficult to verify individuals' identities. Furthermore, in many of these countries, the systems for citizen verification and ID issuance do not meet international security norms.

60-Day Deadline: Strict Action if No Improvement

This warning is being taken seriously, as the Trump administration has previously adopted strict immigration policies. The 36 countries in question now have a 60-day window to improve the integrity of their passport and identification systems. Failure to do so may result in their citizens being banned from entering the United States.

Countries at Risk of U.S. Travel Ban

The list of 36 countries includes Angola, Antigua and Barbuda, Benin, Bhutan, Burkina Faso, Cabo Verde, Cambodia, Cameroon, Côte d'Ivoire, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Djibouti, Dominica, Ethiopia, Egypt, Gabon, The Gambia, Ghana, Kyrgyzstan, Liberia, Malawi, Mauritania, Niger, Nigeria, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Saint Lucia, São Tomé and Príncipe, Senegal, South Sudan, Syria, Tanzania, Tonga, Tuvalu, Uganda, Vanuatu, Zambia, and Zimbabwe.

Continued Enforcement of Strict Immigration Policy

This move reflects the continuity of the Trump administration’s hardline immigration agenda. Previous actions have included travel bans on Muslim-majority nations, a crackdown at the Mexico border, and caps on refugee admissions. The newly proposed restrictions may also impact America’s diplomatic ties with the affected countries, particularly if the bans are implemented.
