New Delhi: As the heat intensifies, simply drinking water is not enough—what you eat is equally important. There are several vegetables that can feel heavy on the body during this season, while others can help keep you cool. It is crucial to pay special attention to your diet during the summer months, as this season carries a risk of dehydration. Furthermore, if the right foods are not chosen, issues such as indigestion and diarrhea may arise. Experts suggest that certain vegetables can increase the body's internal heat, potentially leading to feelings of lethargy or dehydration. You should incorporate light, water-rich foods into your diet. Let's explore which vegetables should be consumed—and which should be avoided—during the summer days.
* Heavy root vegetables that take a long time to digest—such as radishes.
* Certain leafy greens—such as mustard greens—which are better suited for the winter season.
* Vegetables that cause gas or a sensation of heaviness in the stomach—such as jackfruit, ginger, and garlic.
* These vegetables can increase the body's internal heat or cause discomfort, particularly when the outside temperature is already high.
Heavy meals generate excess metabolic heat within the body. Foods that are difficult to digest can lead to fatigue or bloating. In hot weather, certain vegetables may trigger acidity or skin-related issues. When summer temperatures soar, the body already has to work harder to maintain a cool internal temperature; therefore, consuming light meals makes digestion much easier.
* Bottle gourd (Lauki), Ridge gourd (Turai), Ash gourd (Petha).
* Cucumbers and other vegetables with a high water content.
* Lightly cooked leafy greens, such as spinach. Easily digestible sprouted grains, such as green gram (moong).
These vegetables provide natural cooling effects, are easy to digest, and help replenish electrolytes lost from the body through perspiration.
Instead of eating a large meal all at once, eat small portions multiple times throughout the day.
Be sure to include lemon in your meals to facilitate better absorption of Vitamin C and Iron.
Avoid heat-generating vegetables and consume cooling foods instead.
