Lifestyle News: Jalandhar witnessed one of the largest yoga gatherings in Punjab’s history on June 19, 2025. The “CM di Yogshala” event saw a record-breaking turnout of more than 21,000 yoga enthusiasts. While the organizers initially prepared 17,000 yoga mats, the sheer number of participants quickly overwhelmed the arrangements, signaling an extraordinary public response. The event was held at the PAP Grounds and marked as a state-level celebration. Citizens from every age group and background showed up to be part of this grand initiative. The scale of the event not only set a benchmark but also validated the government's efforts in promoting health and wellness.
Punjab’s Health Minister, Dr. Balbir Singh, addressed the massive gathering and praised the enthusiasm shown by citizens. “This kind of public response is heartwarming,” he said, emphasizing the state’s commitment to a healthy and vibrant Punjab. Dr. Singh highlighted the participation of senior officials including Deputy Commissioner Dr. Himanshu Aggarwal and Police Commissioner Dhanpreet Kaur. Their presence, alongside thousands of citizens, reflected unified community support. The minister also encouraged people to make yoga a daily practice, calling it a vital tool for preventive healthcare. He stated that this was not just an event but a movement that will continue to grow across Punjab.
Sharing the broader vision of the initiative, Dr. Singh announced that over 3,200 free yoga classes are now being conducted daily across the state. These sessions, launched two years ago in Jalandhar, have expanded to benefit nearly 100,000 people every day. Certified instructors have been appointed to lead the sessions, ensuring safety and effectiveness. Plans are underway to extend the program further into rural areas, making yoga accessible to all. The long-term goal, he said, is to make yoga not just an event-based activity but a lifestyle for Punjab’s citizens.
Dr. Singh also shed light on how yoga is playing a key role in the state’s anti-drug campaign, “Yudh Nashean De Virudh.” The calming and disciplined practice of yoga, according to him, has helped many youth steer away from addiction. This integration of wellness with social reform adds a deeper layer to the program’s impact. Jalandhar’s Mayor Vanit Dhirmer welcomed the guests, while AAP leader Nitin Kohli expressed gratitude in his closing remarks. The event concluded with optimism and resolve—yoga is no longer just an exercise, but a public health mission.
Yoga in Punjab is no longer just a tool for relaxation—it's becoming a frontline force against deep-rooted social issues. From stress to substance abuse, yoga is being used as a bridge between healing and awareness. The state’s health department has integrated daily yoga sessions into its anti-drug campaign, with surprising results. Youth previously caught in addiction are now engaging in group sessions focused on breath, focus, and self-control. The transformation is not instant, but it is visible. CM di Yogshala is building more than flexible bodies—it’s building emotional resilience. In Punjab, yoga is quietly rewriting the story of recovery.
