West Bengal's Chief Electoral Officer, Manoj Agarwal, stated that re-polling will be conducted in areas where tape was found affixed to the Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs). At several booths within the Falta Assembly constituency, tape was discovered covering the buttons corresponding to the BJP's election symbol. The BJP had lodged a complaint regarding this matter with the Election Commission.
The trend of bumper voter turnout continues in the second phase of the West Bengal Assembly elections. Compared to the first phase, the second phase witnessed more intense clashes between the BJP and the TMC. Despite this, voters stepped out of their homes. By 3 PM, approximately 78 percent polling had been recorded across 142 seats.

BJP candidate Suvendu Adhikari stated that when he arrived at a polling station in Bhabanipur, some individuals raised slogans of 'Joy Bangla.' He claimed that these individuals were Muslims of Bangladeshi origin whose names did not appear on the voter list. According to Adhikari, he allowed them to continue raising slogans for about 15 minutes so that the entire incident could be captured on camera. He further claimed that, in the wake of this incident, approximately 10,000 votes have shifted in his favor. Earlier in the day, a tense situation had also arisen at a polling station in Bhabanipur due to slogan-shouting during his arrival.
After casting his vote in Belgachia, Mithun Chakraborty remarked, "If the voting percentage remains high, you can understand what is about to happen."
In the second and final phase of the West Bengal Assembly elections 2026, a voter turnout of approximately 61.11 percent was recorded by 1 PM. Meanwhile, BJP leader Locket Chatterjee claimed that voting had already reached nearly 85 percent in several locations and that the election process was proceeding peacefully. Appealing to the people to exercise their franchise, she asserted that the BJP is poised to form the government this time and that Bengal is slipping out of Mamata Banerjee's grasp.
Amidst the ongoing voting in Bengal, Home Minister Amit Shah called Suvendu Adhikari to receive an update. Meanwhile, the Election Commission issued a statement declaring, "If the application of tape on any button of an EVM, or any other tampering, is confirmed, re-polling will be conducted at the concerned booths."
The atmosphere turned tense at a polling station when Suvendu Adhikari, the BJP candidate from both Bhabanipur and Nandigram, arrived to inspect the premises. As he was leaving, he raised slogans of 'Jai Shri Ram' and 'Hindu Hindu Bhai-Bhai' (Hindus are brothers). At that moment, TMC supporters present at the scene surrounded him and began chanting 'Jai Bangla'. The exchange of slogans between the two factions continued for some time, creating a minor tension in the area.
Ratna Debnath, the BJP candidate from the Panihati constituency and mother of the victim from R.G. Kar Medical College, has alleged that certain TMC workers attempted to attack her and subjected her to abusive language. She stated that she was intimidated by accusations of politicizing her daughter's case and was warned that she would have to face the consequences on May 4. According to Ratna Debnath, she lodged a complaint with the police, demanding the arrest of the accused; however, the police reportedly asked her to leave the premises and even refused to allow her chief election agent to remain by her side. Subsequently, after a formal complaint was registered at the police station, the police arrived at the scene and removed the TMC workers present there.
West Bengal Election Voting LIVE: Approximately 39.97 percent voter turnout was recorded by 11 AM during the second and final phase of the 2026 West Bengal Assembly elections. Meanwhile, the State Election Commissioner has stated that if any irregularity or complaint regarding the pressing of buttons emerges from any location, it will be investigated. If the complaint is found to be valid, re-polling will be conducted at the concerned booth.
The BJP has alleged tampering with Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) in the Falta Assembly constituency. According to the BJP candidate, the buttons on the EVMs are not functioning properly. They have also demanded a re-election. It is worth noting that heavy contingents of central forces have been deployed in Diamond Harbour and Falta. Units of the Rapid Action Force have also been deployed to maintain law and order.
Amidst the ongoing voting in Bengal, reports have emerged of the BJP candidate being gheraoed in Panihati. Here, TMC workers allegedly surrounded the BJP candidate, Ratna Debnath, and raised slogans.
Reports of a scuffle have emerged from a polling booth in Khanakul, Hooghly, amidst the ongoing voting process. A clash broke out between supporters of the TMC and the Indian Secular Front (ISF) at this location. According to reports, supporters from both parties came to blows following allegations regarding the appointment of fake polling agents.
Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee came into the field and directly raised questions on the election process. She said that some observers are not impartial and are working under some pressure.

Mamata Banerjee has leveled a serious allegation against the BJP. She stated that the BJP intends to win this election by force. She further alleged that her party workers are being beaten up. A historic scene was witnessed today in Kolkata's most high-profile seat, Bhawanipur, during the second phase of voting in the Bengal Assembly elections. Tension prevailed during voting in Bali assembly constituency of Howrah when the EVM machine broke down at the polling booth of Don Bosco Liluah Sahanlal Vidyalaya. When the voting process was disrupted due to a glitch in the machine, the voters became agitated and the situation worsened.
