Vice President Election 2025: National Democratic Alliance-backed CP Radhakrishnan was elected as the 15th Vice President on Tuesday. Radhakrishnan defeated INDIA bloc nominee Justice B Sudershan Reddy by 152 votes in the vice presidential elections held between 10 am and 5 pm on Tuesday.
A total of 98.20 per cent voter turnout was found in the vice presidential elections, wherein 767 MPs cast their vote out of 788. NDA nominee CP Radhakrishnan received 452 first-preference votes, whereas the INDIA bloc candidate Justice B Sudershan Reddy received 300 first-preference votes. Fifteen votes were considered invalid.
"NDA nominee and Maharashtra Governor C.P. Radhakrishnan got 452 first preference votes. He has been elected as the Vice President of India... Opposition's vice-presidential candidate Justice Sudershan Reddy secured 300 first-preference votes," Rajya Sabha general secretary PC Mody said in his press conference. A total of 13 MPs abstained from voting in the vice presidential elections. The list includes seven MPs from Biju Janata Dal, four from Bharath Rashtra Samithi, one MP from Shiromani Akali Dal and one independent MP.
Earlier today, top leaders, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Ministers Rajnath Singh and Amit Shah, Lok Sabha LoP Rahul Gandhi, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge and others, cast their votes in the vice presidential elections. The Vice President's seat has been vacant since July 21, 2025, as Jagdeep Dhankhar resigned from his position, citing health reasons.

Former Maharashtra Governor CP Radhakrishnan secured 452 first preference votes to win the vice-presidential election, defeating his challenger, Justice B Sudershan Reddy, who received 300 votes, Returning Officer PC Mody announced.
CP Radhakrishnan has been elected as the new Vice President of India. He secured 452 votes out of a total of 768.
After the voting for Vice President election concluded at 5 pm, counting process for the VP polls has started from 6 pm onwards.
Voting for the Vice Presidential election commenced at 10 am and concluded at 5 pm at the Parliament House. Reportedly, counting of votes will start at 6 pm.
After the Union Ministers, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla on Tuesday cast his vote in the ongoing Vice Presidential election at Parliament. Polling started at 10 am and will conclude at 5 pm. The VP Poll is being held under the supervision of the returning officer.
The Vice President Election is still on. The polling is being held to elect the new vice president. Till 3 PM, 96 per cent of voting was recorded. Prime Minister Narendra Modi was the first to cast his vote in the VP Polls between NDA nominee C P Radhakrishnan and joint opposition candidate B Sudershan Reddy.
After several Union Ministers, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman participated in the VS Polls being held today.
