New Delhi: American tech giant Meta on Tuesday apologised and clarified that a selfie video of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in which he was addressing youth protesters, was mistakenly removed from his Facebook account and has now been restored, according to sources. 

What did the Meta say?

Meta on Tuesday has issued a statement stating that the selfie video of PM Narendra Modi was "removed in error" and also confirmed that the short clip has since been restored, according to sources.

A Meta spokesperson has issued a statement and clarification regarding the removal of PM Modi's video from Facebook and said that, "The content was removed in error and has since been restored."

What did the government say?

According to sources, the government is taking the incident "very seriously" and the Ministry of Information and Technology has already sent summons to the global heads of Meta and Instagram.

The government believes such an incident cannot be taken lightly, and will seek answers from the relevant authorities.

The issue came to light in the early hours of July 28, when Indian users on Meta-owned Facebook were temporarily unable to view a video of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. When users attempted to open the video, they were greeted with an automated message stating that access to the video had been restricted in India due to a legal request. T

This video was a selfie-recorded message from Prime Minister Narendra Modi, specifically addressing the country's GenZ regarding the paper leak controversy and the Union Cabinet's upcoming action on the issue.
