71st National Film Awards 2025: SRK and Rani Mukherjee Win Their First National Awards, Others Also Honoured

National News: This year, the 71st National Film Awards 2025 marks the first win for actor Shah Rukh Khan after a celebrated career spanning over 30 years. Both Shah Rukh Khan and Rani Mukerji received their first National Film Awards in their film industry careers. Shah Rukh Khan and Vikrant Massey shared the Best Actor award for their performances in Jawan and 12th Fail, respectively. Rani Mukerji was honoured with the Best Actress award for her role in Mrs Chatterjee vs Norway. The Dadasaheb Phalke Award, the highest honour in Indian cinema, was awarded to Mohanlal, known for his remarkable performances in Malayalam films over the last four decades. In 2024, this prestigious award was given to veteran Hindi actor Mithun Chakraborty.

The National Film Awards celebrate creators across the Indian film industry, and the 71st National Film Awards ceremony began a few hours ago today (23 September 2025) at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi. The event honors the best works of Indian cinema, and President Droupadi Murmu is presenting the awards to the winners.

This year, the film '12th Fail' has been selected as the Best Film. Vikrant Masay, who played the role in this film, won the best actor award. Similarly, Shah Rukh Khan bagged his first-ever National Award for his role in Atlee's directorial 'Jawan'. Malayalam actor Mohanlal has been awarded the Dadasaheb Phalke Award, the highest honour in Indian cinema. He has played over 350 roles in cinema since 1978.

'Bhagavanth Kesari' featuring Nandamuri Balakrishna bagged the Best Film award in the Best Regional Film (Telugu) category. Representing Tamil cinema, the film 'Parking' was selected as the Best Tamil Film. M.S. Bhaskar, who acted in this film, won the Best Supporting Actor award. Similarly, G.V. Prakash Kumar, who composed music for the film 'Vaathi', received the Best Music Composer award.
