Kolkata: Union Home Minister Amit Shah, who was on a visit to West Bengal, on Tuesday made a direct attack on Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and her party, Trinamool Congress (TMC). Shah alleged that “fear, corruption and infiltration” have increased in Bengal in the last 15 years and this has seriously affected the security of the state.

What did Shah say?

During the press conference in Kolkata, Shah said that an atmosphere of change has been created in the state. He said, "In the last 15 years, Bengal has suffered fear, corruption, and misadministration. People are feeling insecure because of infiltration. Now the public wants change." According to Shah, the assembly elections to be held in April will decide the direction of Bengal, and voters want a government of development and stability this time.

What did Shah say about corruption?

Shah alleged that corruption has become common during the tenure of the Trinamool government. He claims that many of the Centre's schemes, which were brought for the poor, fell victim to the "toll syndicate and commission system." Shah said, "Development has come to a standstill under Mamata Banerjee's government. Modi ji's schemes become vulnerable to corruption as soon as they reach here."

Why was infiltration linked to national security?

Shah described the issue of infiltration as the most serious. He said that this is not just the problem of Bengal, but it is a matter of national security. The infiltration taking place on the Bengal border is a question related to the security of the entire country. If the culture and borders of the country are to be saved, then a patriotic government is needed here. Mamata Banerjee will not be able to do this; only BJP can do this.”

'Bengal will change from 15th April 2026'

Amit Shah claimed that after the assembly elections, a BJP government will be formed in the state, and after that, the earlier identity of Bengal will be returned. He said that BJP wants to give Bengal the identity that was dreamed of by Swami Vivekananda, Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay, Rabindranath Tagore, and Syama Prasad Mukherjee.

What is TMC's answer?

There is no official response from TMC on this statement yet, but it is believed that the party will counterattack soon.
