Delhi: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Yumnam Khemchand Singh has been elected as the leader of the legislative party and will be the new Chief Minister of Manipur. Central observer Tarun Chugh welcomed him by draping a traditional patka, with Manipur State President and Northeast in-charge Sambit Patra also present on the occasion.

It is to be noted here that BJP leader Yumnam Khemchand belongs to the majority Meitei community, who is set to be the next CM of Manipur.

Meanwhile, talking about the announcement, BJP MLA from Manipur, Thokchom Radheshyam Singh, said, "It's good that we are going to have an elected government, a popular government. It's long overdue. So we thank the central leadership for finally taking this step... Every problem has a solution. I think with the guidance of the central leadership and the new ministry, under the leadership of Yumnam Khemchand, we will find a solution."

It is to be noted here that a state BJP leader was quoted by Hindustan Times as saying, “On Sunday, all legislators were asked to come to Delhi for a meeting on Monday. All 37 MLAs are in Delhi for the meeting. The meeting was supposed to be held Monday evening but after the latest announcement about the central observer, we all received information saying that the meeting has been postponed to 3 pm tomorrow.”

“All NDA partners have been invited....Let's hope for a positive response,” Singh told reporters, as per PTI. “The government is a continuing process. I try my best to change the landscape in the state of Manipur,” he further said.
