Virat Kohli Smashes 80th Half-century, Sets Numerous Records

New Delhi: India has made a winning start to the five-match ODI series against New Zealand. India won the rain-affected first ODI in Auckland on Wednesday by 5 wickets. India chased the DLS target of 143 runs in 22.4 overs on the basis of a brilliant half-century innings by Virat Kohli. 

Kohli scored 74 runs in 51 balls with the help of 13 fours and one six. This is the 80th half-century of his ODI career. Kohli created a series of records by scoring a half-century in Auckland. Let us tell you about his seven strong records.

Sachin Tendulkar's world record broken again

37-year-old Kohli has broken two more world records of legendary batsman Sachin Tendulkar. He has become the player with the most runs scored during chases in ODI cricket . Kohli has now amassed 8741 runs. Sachin scored 8720 runs in ODI chases. Kohli also broke Sachin's record of scoring the most 50-plus scores against SENA countries. He did so for the 134th time. Sachin scored 50-plus scores 133 times.

In cricket, South Africa, England, New Zealand, and Australia are known as SENA countries. Kohli has jointly become the cricketer with the most 50-plus scores in ODI victories. He has achieved this feat 94 times. He equaled former Australian captain Ricky Ponting (94). Kohli has become the first batsman to score 13,000 runs at the number-3 position in ODIs.

Kohli surpassed Sehwag

Kohli is the joint highest scorer of fifty-plus scores against New Zealand in international cricket. Kohli, Ponting, and Pakistan's Babar Azam have done so 27 times. England's Joe Root has played fifty-plus innings against New Zealand 26 times. Kohli has scored 1971 runs against New Zealand in ODIs. He has equaled Ponting's (1971) record for most runs against the Kiwis in this format. Kohli has also surpassed Virender Sehwag on the list of Indian players with the most ODI runs against New Zealand. He has reached the second spot with 670 runs. Sehwag has scored 598 runs. Sachin tops this list (821 runs).
