New Delhi: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has taken an aggressive step against fugitives this year. Between January and September, the agency managed to get 189 Red and Blue Corner Notices issued through Interpol. This is the highest number ever in the history of the CBI. According to officials, this achievement was made possible after India joined the I-24/7 Interpol communication system and launched the BharatPol portal. Both these tools allowed quicker tracking of fugitives worldwide. The CBI says this change has made their global reach more effective.

Faster Action By Interpol Now

CBI Director Praveen Sood explained that earlier it used to take an average of 14 months for Interpol to act on requests. Now, that period has been cut down to only three months. This time reduction has made it easier for Indian agencies to put pressure on absconders.

Red notices mean the person is wanted for extradition, while Blue notices help track their movements. With faster action, India has improved its chances of bringing criminals back home. Officials say this shows growing trust between Interpol and Indian agencies.

Extradition Requests Still Pending Abroad

Sood also pointed out that India currently has 338 extradition requests pending with different countries. These cases involve people wanted for serious crimes including fraud, money laundering, and terrorism. While the number of pending requests remains high, the success rate is improving every year. In 2023, India managed to bring back 29 fugitives. In 2024, the number rose to 30. By September 2025 itself, 35 fugitives had already been brought back. Authorities are confident that the final number this year will cross 40.

Success Stories Of Extradition

Officials explained that some fugitives tried to hide in countries without formal extradition treaties with India. But with Red Notices, they were still detained and returned. This international cooperation has strengthened India’s hand in high-profile cases. Bringing back fugitives has also sent a strong message to criminals who try to escape justice. The CBI believes that more such cases will be resolved faster in the coming years. The improved coordination with foreign police forces has boosted India’s credibility globally.

Pending Proposals For Interpol Notices

Sood further revealed that currently only eight proposals for Interpol notices are pending. This is the lowest backlog in recent years. The oldest request is only one month old. Earlier, such proposals would remain stuck for years without action. Now the CBI has created a mechanism where Blue Corner notices can quickly be upgraded to Red Corner notices. This has reduced delays and improved monitoring of fugitives abroad. The director said these steps make India’s fight against international crime sharper and quicker.

Technology Driving Faster Extradition

The use of technology has played a key role in this transformation. The BharatPol portal now directly connects Indian law enforcement agencies with Interpol. This digital link allows instant sharing of photographs, fingerprints, and case files. As a result, the process that earlier took months can now be completed in weeks. Officials added that the electronic verification of identities has reduced errors and improved results. By using these tools, India is making sure that no fugitive feels safe outside the country. The system is now more efficient and transparent.

India’s Firm Stand Against Fugitives

In conclusion, the CBI chief made it clear that fugitives can no longer escape Indian law by hiding abroad. With record notices and quicker action, India is showing determination to bring criminals back. Sood said the agency is committed to ensuring that justice is not delayed. He added that cooperation with global partners is stronger than before. The message is simple: fugitives will be tracked, detained, and brought back. The new record proves that India’s fight against absconders is becoming faster and tougher
