Chhannulal Mishra Dies Today: Chhannulal Mishra, renowned classical singer and Padma Vibhushan awardee Pandit Chhannulal Mishra passed away today in Mirzapur. Mishra, who belonged to the Banaras gharanas, was known for his classical music style, including khayal, thumri, and bhajans. In an unfortunate incident, Chhannulal Mishra passed away today. On his demise, Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his grief and sorrow and remembered him by calling a dedicated servant of Indian art and culture.

Born on August 3, 1936, in Hariharpur, Azamgarh district. His grandfather, Gudai Maharaj Shanta Prasad, was a renowned tabla player. Chhannulal learned the nuances of music from his father, Badri Prasad Mishra, at the age of  six. Chhannulal learned khayal by his first guru, Ustad Ghani Ali Sahib, at the age of nine. He first learned music with his father, Badri Prasad Mishra, and then was trained by Ustad Abdul Ghani Khan of the Kirana gharana. 

His work place Varanasi

Chhannulal's work place was Banaras and he was one of the prominent artist of the Kirana Gharana and Banaras Gharana. Known for his Khayal, Thumri, Bhajan, Dadra, Kajri, and Chaiti, Chhannulal received his education in music in Muzaffarpur.Chhannulal was awarded the Padma Vibhushan in 2020, the Padma Bhushan in 2010, and the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award in 2000.

PM Modi Expresses Grief 

Prime Minister Narendra Modi shared a photo of singer Chhannulal Mishra on his social media handle. Extending his grief, PM Modi, wrote, ''I am deeply saddened by the passing of renowned classical singer Pandit Chhannulal Mishra. He dedicated his life to the enrichment of Indian art and culture. He not only brought classical music to the masses but also made invaluable contributions to establishing Indian traditions on the world stage. I am fortunate to have always received his affection and blessings. In 2014, he was also my proposer for the Varanasi seat. I express my deepest condolences to his family and fans in this time of grief. Om Shanti!''
