Rajasthan: A 24-year-old man, Rudresh, who was believed dead after a police encounter, has been found alive and remains on the run, raising questions about police procedures and misidentification.
In a dramatic turn of events, Rudresh, also known as RDX, allegedly shot himself in the face during a police raid in Naya Nohara. Initially presumed dead, his body was taken to a mortuary, only for his family to identify it as that of another criminal, Pritam Goswami. Deputy Superintendent of Police Lokendra Paliwal confirmed the mix-up, attributing it to the mutilated state of the face and scattered belongings in the room .
CCTV footage revealed that Rudresh had fled the scene just moments before police arrived. This escape has left law enforcement scrambling to locate him while facing scrutiny over their handling of the situation. The misidentification has sparked outrage and concerns about the accuracy of police operations in high-stakes encounters .
Rudresh is wanted for his involvement in a shooting incident at a paan shop on January 2, where he and his accomplices fired upon the shop owner's brother after being denied cigarettes. Meanwhile, Pritam Goswami had a lengthy criminal record with over 15 cases against him. The police recovered three weapons from the hideout during their raid, further complicating the narrative surrounding these criminals .
Despite one of Rudresh’s aides being apprehended earlier, he remains at large. Police efforts to track him down are ongoing as they deal with the fallout from this significant misstep. The case raises critical questions about identification protocols and the need for thorough investigations in similar encounters.
